ARTMEXICO had the absolute honour of being chosen by David Stark Design to make the papel picado event decor for the esteemed 2019 Brooklyn Artists Ball, the most inspiring event of the art world held in the Brooklyn Museum, New York.
The NY-based event decorator and production company was behind the selection of our event decor at this flamboyant Mexico-themed evening. The team carefully selected colour blocked garlands in hot pink, cobalt blue and bright orange to showcase the vibrant Mexican theme.
Also featured was food cooked by NYC’s best chefs in Mexican cuisine, a series of experiential activations featuring nods to Frida Kahlo, a crochet photo booth created by Olek, and a screen printing area. The guest of honour was colourful and performative artist, Nick Cave.
Kahlo was a big part of the night and influenced much of the art, decorations and even the outfit choices for many of the guests. We created custom-made event bunting with traditional Mexican designs that burst with colour above the fiesta. They blended perfectly with the mojigangas or giant puppets of Frida and Diego Rivera who roamed around the festivities with a live mariachi band in tow, while guests helped themselves to Jose Cuervo tequila, and bespoke paletas.
Downstairs, guests were welcome to browse the “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving” exhibit.
And how was it to have our papel picado event decor featured at a prestigious event such as this? Our founder, Aprylle shares her thoughts:
“We were totally thrilled when we found out our papel picado would be decorating the Brooklyn Artists Ball, such a famous and prestigious event! We were honoured that our papel picado was showcased with so many of the art world’s most flamboyant and fabulous artists. The ingenious way that David Stark Design hung the papel picado was absolutely dazzling. Sarose their Event Coordinator was a joy to work with and we look forward to hopefully working with them again on more of their splendid events.”
Our custom papel picado really helped bring a colourful but edgy vibe to the Brooklyn Museum. Our event decorations can include custom flags designs, and the colour palette to suit the occasion. We always say that papel picado banners look best in abundance, and this is evident in the photos of the whopping 7,000 ft that David Stark Design team ordered. It truly rocked the Brooklyn Artists Ball, and it can rock your corporate event too!
