]]>The nine minute 360° short film is about an aging one-legged wrestler who is struggling with his legacy, life, and family. “This is the story of him regaining his soul, because he’s lost it, and the love of his family and regaining the honor.... of his family’s name,” Gutierrez said of his work.
His idea came from childhood dreams of being a luchador or wrestler while growing up in Mexico City. Guttierez drew parallels between that dream and the medium of VR in that, “Putting on goggles to me felt like putting on a wrestling mask, so this idea that you become someone else felt very… visceral.” With a gift for storytelling and a colourful and imaginative VR world, Son of Jaguar holds a special place in the series of Google Spotlight Stories.
Jaguar’s big match takes place on the Day of the Dead, and features some papel picado around the wrestling ring and calavera style skulls. Jaguar’s father speaks to him from beyond the grave and advises him that while he has lost a leg, he still carries the heart of a Jaguar.
So logically when the film launched in October 2017, papel picado needed to be involved in the form of ARTMEXICO’s custom bunting. Google contacted us with some images drawn from Gutierrez’s film, and we had our artesans copy them onto 500 meters of papel picado and 200 waving flags, divided into two designs.
Flag designs drew from Gutierrez's original character sketches from Son of Jaguar. This was quite a rushed order and our team worked overtime to get the custom papel picado ready within a 2 week period. Fortunately, this is something we are quite skilled at and the results came out great! Check out how the custom bunting looked at the event, which also included a mariachi band.
If your brand is in a pinch but you still need some of our custom bunting, remember that we can make up to 1,000 metres of papel picado per week in an emergency.
Recently, we caught up with the now happily married Lee + Matthew to pick their brains on just why they chose ArtMexico, and why they wanted to include our personalised wedding bunting in their special day. Here’s what they had to say.
On what made them choose ARTMEXICO...
"We initially felt inspired by the decorations as when we went to visit our wedding venue, it was set up for a wedding the next day and one of the couple was Spanish. Because I have Spanish heritage, Matt and I regularly visit Spain and it instantly struck a chord with us. We did some research into the style and came across your shop..."
"… We fell in love with the designs and were impressed with the incredible reviews you had.”
How they felt about the final look...
“We were blown away with the final look once it was up; it was everything that we hoped for…”
“Because we over-ordered slightly with the length, we had quite a few panels left and decided to mark the occasion by framing some of the panels and gifting them to family and friends close to us. We also found that we had plenty of flags left over, and so I cut these and created thank you cards from the design, which added a very personal touch.”
On why they decided to get married...
“In terms of about us, there's not much to say really! We decided to get married mutually because Matt's grandmother passed away and after nearly 8 years, we decided life is too short.”
“It was an incredible day and many people have commented on how personal and intimate the feeling of the wedding was, with many attributing our personal touches to the day as contributing factors (eg all design factors, particularly your bunting). I think this can be seen on the tables as well that we designed ourselves in the photos that I sent you.”

Wishing you many happy years together, Lee + Matthew!

]]>Their wedding took place at Manorbier Castle in Pembrokeshire, Wales on June 9th, 2018. This stunning historic venue was founded in the late 11th century and passed through the hands of many, including the Earls of Pembroke.
Jack and Leah made beautiful use of a weatherproof marquee tent by draping crepe from the ceiling to create an intimate and soft effect. They then hung fresh floral garlands down the middle of the space and finished the look off with our custom Mexican wedding bunting in #12 Lilac, #13 Light Violet, #18 Pale Green, #36 Bougainvillea, #38 Sunshine Yellow, #1 White hand-cut custom-made tissue paper flags.
Every order of our Mexican wedding bunting comes with the same quantity of free mini papel picado waving flags which are the perfect personalised wedding favours! So for Jack and Leah’s order of 112 meters of personalised papel picado bunting, they received 112 free waving flags, cut with a beautiful design of two doves, flowers and their names “JACK & LEAH”. If you look closely, you can see them waving in the Welsh breeze, as the happy couple comes out of the castle chapel, in a flurry of bubbles blown excitedly by their admiring guests waiting below.
Our custom Mexican wedding bunting features gorgeous love themes such as doves, hearts and the word ‘AMOR’ (love in Spanish!). Rather than have all six of our regular designs, they selected our large heart flag, the AMOR flag, the couple’s names flag, and Jack and Leah also requested one additional special custom-made flag featuring their own 'House of Rad' crest design, which had personal significance to the bride and groom.
Aprylle thought it would look best as a vertical flag placed after every three other horizontal flags. Here is the garland sketch that she sent Jack & Leah during their email conversation about their order.
And here is the couple's crest design that they sent us and the papel picado flag we made them copying it.
The happy couple sent all their guests these gorgeous ‘Thank You’ cards created by the talented James Nash that feature the House of Rad shield and their iconic appearance in front of Manorbier Castle.
It was a pleasure to work with Jack & Leah throughout the order process, they were so friendly and so excited about their custom wedding bunting! They sent us in this lovely review after the party! Thanks guys and happy married life to you both! xxx

]]>Adorable client, Misty, ordered 150 metres of our White Papel Picado Wedding Bunting for her destination wedding in a huge Mexican villa. She was so charming to deal with throughout the order and delivery process, and after the big day she said the sweetest things about the personalised MISTY & GREG 10.15.2021 garlands that we'd made for them.
Misty & Greg wed in Mexico on October 15, 2021 and the day was a roaring success. Their guests wore all white, which looked so amazing combined with their white papel picado wedding flags glinting in the sunshine. Easy but always delicious, our guacamole recipe requires just four ingredients:
How: mix all ingredients in a bowl. Serve with nachos.
How: mix all ingredients in a bowl. Serve with nachos.
How: put beans in a food processor without the liquid (reserve the liquid for adding to get desired texture). Make a soft paste with the beans, add cream cheese until perfectly mixed. Serve with nachos.
How: heat the tortilla in a grill pan on low heat, add a good amount of cheese in one half. Don't be too generous though as the cheese will melt and may fall out of the tortilla haha ;) When the tortilla is soft (after about 2 minutes), fold it over. Flip it over in one or two minutes more, when the cheese has melted, but the tortilla is still soft. Some people prefer to leave them a little longer in the grill, so the tortilla turns crunchy.
Serve with any Mexican hot sauce! Try Chilli No. 5's Mexican hot sauce if you're feeling fancy and want super healthy hot sauce made with superfoods - it's actually Aprylle's brother's hot sauce company! ;) - they also have very cool hot sauce gift packs with lots of different sauces in test tubes that make great gifts. ;)
How: Cut the corn grains off the corn on the cob. In a pan on medium heat, melt the butter, add the onion and the grains of corn. Cook for 5 minutes. Add water to cover it, add 1/2 a teaspoon salt. Cook covered for 20 minutes or until the corn is soft. Serve with all of the toppings listed above to get the full Mexican street food experience!
Enjoy these Mexican recipes and Viva la Fiesta!
]]>Have you ever wondered how you can really amaze your guests with your event decor?...like totally blow them away when they walk into the room? And is there a way to create something visually stunning and add a personal touch to the decorations at the same time?
Yes! Papel picado is the answer! Here's some papel picado inspiraton for you!
Our traditional Mexican wedding papel picado can look absolutely stunning when you fill a ceiling with it. Plus, it can be made with the bride and groom's names and wedding date cut out in the flags, adding a personal touch to your event like no other!
Below are a selection of our clients' wedding photos, before and after their venues have been decorated with their papel picado...what do you think?
Hannah and Gabriel ordered; 25 garlands, each 6 meters long - so 150 meters in total - the flags had their names and their wedding date and the words Amor, Felicidades, hearts, flowers, champagne flutes, and fireworks, all cut in white tissue paper flags. Their venue, a large barn in Maine, was instantly transformed into a magical fairy tale.
Any venue can be adorned with your personal signature by adding papel picado!
Here are some of our recommendations:
COLOUR CHOOSING
Define the colour spectrum you want to use.
Want to make a bold statement with just a solid vibrant colour? Try bright yellow, red, blue, orange or green.
Perhaps you prefer a gradient of various colours, ombre style: discreet, young and playful.
Or why not go colour crazy, for a happy, festive, traditional Mexican fiesta style? Select our multi-coloured Mexican Mix colour selection option which is used in most of our traditional multi-coloured banners.
Want to keep it elegant and sophisticated? Then opt for all white, salmon, pale pink or any colour in a light shade, just remember to stick to one colour.
In order to make sure that your papel picado a noticeable, remember to aim for a contrast between the colour of your flags and the colour of the ceiling; thus avoid dark colours in terraces at night, or all white flags if the ceiling of your venue is white.
HANGING
Define the way you will hang your garlands. Here are some tips:
Symmetric patterns will give elegance to your event and will allow beautiful photos from any angle.
Looser or crisscrossed patterns will bring a festive, fun ambiance to your event.
The best way to fix your garlands up is either by using small nails or 3M Command Decorating Clips, as the garlands are quite light.
TISSUE PAPER OR PLASTIC FLAGS?
Tissue paper flags work perfectly if your event lasts some hours or a weekend, inside, or outdoors if there is no chance of rain.
Choose plastic flags if your event is outdoors, as they are totally waterproof, or if it's indoors, and you want the flags and colour to last much longer, for many months in fact.
We would be DELIGHTED to help you make your event an unforgettable one, like our client's events above. And we really love seeing the pictures of your events adorned by our handmade papel picado after the big day, so please do send them in!

Cinco de Mayo gained traction in 1960’s America when new Mexican immigrants were wanting a way to celebrate their heritage outside of Mexico. The holiday has taken on a whole new lease on life in the US thanks to some very clever marketing by both Mexican business owners and liquor and beer brands. It’s widely known that Americans drink more beer on Cinco de Mayo than on Super Bowl Sunday or St. Patrick’s Day, and Cinco de Mayo has even been celebrated at the White House under several presidencies.
Globally, many other countries have joined in the fun, eating Mexican food like tacos and churros, drinking Margaritas and dressing in festive costumes. The holiday continues to be a bold representation of resistance to foreign intervention in Mexico, and a chance for Mexican expats world over to come together to share and celebrate their heritage.
Here at the ARTMEXICO headquarters, we love to get the gang together to have a big cookout fiesta and to celebrate our mutual love for all things Mexican. Choosing to host a Cinco de Mayo party opens up a whole world of cool and colorful decoration ideas.
This year, we have a very special Cinco de Mayo papel picado banner and Cinco de Mayo table decorations that we’d like to introduce to you. These traditional handmade Mexican party decorations will make your Cinco de Mayo fiesta extra authentic, and super colourful! We recommend either pairing them with natural wood tones, like we’ve done at our dinner party, or going all out with Mexican placemats and colourful pom pom garlands hung around the room as well for a super color-crazy theme!
We’ve even got the perfect refreshing spring cocktail to match:
One simple step: In a highball glass filled with ice, combine salt, tequila and lime juice. Top with soda. Garnish and enjoy!
Happy Cinco de Mayo! - Viva la fiesta!
]]>The launch for Kelsey McKinney's book, God Spare the Girls, took place at Lost City Books in Washington, DC on June 25th, 2021. Guests enjoyed a great discussion and signed copies of this debut novel!
To add a special touch to the event, the organisers ordered 40 meters of our custom papel picado bunting, requesting for “GOD SPARE THE GIRLS” to be cut into the flags. They chose for us to make them in a blissful selection of tissue paper colours - 42-Sunset, 39-Bright Orange Marigold, 27-Plum, 44-Coral, 11-Dusky Sunset Pink, and 32-Bright Cherry Red - to match the pink sunset cover of the “GOD SPARE THE GIRLS” book. When making the papel picado we copied the font type from the book cover and added some pretty detailing either side to make the flags look very elegant and eye-catching.
They also received fifty free “GOD SPARE THE GIRLS” custom made papel picado waving flags (which come with all our custom papel picado orders) in the same colour selection.
The book is a mesmerizing debut novel set in northern Texas about two sisters who discover an unsettling secret about their father, the head pastor of an evangelical megachurch, that upends their lives and community—a story of family, identity, and the delicate line between faith and deception. Find out more here, about the book GOD SPARE THE GIRLS and the event.
Our client kindly wrote to us after the event saying:
"I just wanted to say how amazing the banners looked at the book party. Everyone was so impressed, and they were the highlight of the party decor, for sure! Everyone was taking pictures of them!"
May the book be a great success!
Love from us all the team at ArtMexico! Xxx

On Nov 1, in Lexington KY, catering and events company The Apiary teamed up with event space The Liminal to host their Dias de los Muertos Event. The event was welcome to all to join, and all in all 85 guests were in attendance.
The Apiary called on us to supply some Day of the Dead decorations to make the event look truly authentic and oh so colourful. We obliged with 32 large Mexican Handmade Ceramic Skulls, 50 small Mexican Handmade Ceramic Skulls, 164 Marigold Garlands in short, long and loose varieties, 60 Day of the Dead Papel Picado Garlands with Large Flags, and 2 Metallic Skull Papel Picado Garlands with Large Flags. The garlands totalled 1,000 feet (over 300 metres), creating a glorious halo of color on the very high ceiling.
Guests arrived at 6:45pm as the sun was beginning to set to a candlelit garden, creating the perfect setting for a Dia de los Muertos event to take place. Local artist Anna Campamones, created a thematic entranceway between the trees using a combination of woven native grasses and marigolds.
Each guest stepped through this seasonal threshold, and were engulfed in the delicious aroma of burning copal incense, while being guided towards the event by candles lit on either side of a path scattered with marigold petals. If you’re curious to know more about the significance of marigolds as a Day of the Dead decoration, make sure to read up on our What is the Day of the Dead? page.
As guests made their way into the building on the way to the bar, they discovered an octagonal table adorned in more candles and marigolds. Installed above the bar was a 10 feet (3 metre) cow skull made of wood with flowers woven through it. Custom cocktails were created for the evening and served throughout the night, and appetizers made their rounds during cocktail hour. Servers were donned in calavera or sugar skull makeup, paying tribute to traditional Dia de los Muertos art.
Guests were free to roam around and experience the beauty of the space, and could also walk outside into our heated tent that held a satellite bar and live music by Deiter Hennings trio. Women made tortillas by hand in traditional Mexican dress and guests could enjoy tacos made to order on large planchas, while behind them a whole pig was roasting.
Later on, when the doors opened to the main dining room, decorated long wooden farm tables greeted the 85 guests. Our hand painted Mexican Handmade Ceramic Skulls joined a thoughtfully curated ensemble of handmade wool serapes, candles and marigolds.
Every detail was thought through, down to the small sugar skull charms wrapped around the napkin rings. ARTMEXICO’s colourful Day of the Dead Papel Picado Flags and Metallic Skull Papel Picado Flags were hung from the ceiling of the dining room, and from the ceiling of the tent outside, to create a cohesive effect.
Multiple Mexican-inspired courses were passed around family style. And what a menu it was! Check out some of the deliciousness that these lucky guests got to experience.
The house was surrounded by thriving jungle blooms that blew in the wind invitingly, a lush contrast to its modern whitewashed walls. We rang the big bell outside hoping someone would answer, and out came a member of staff and some very eager and very tiny doggos. We were invited inside where we were engulfed by beautiful blooms, artisanal wooden decorations, murals and mirrors that evoked both Mexico and world designs.
It turned out the owner and creative force, Erick Millan, was in the building. He gave us a tour of the home that’s in constant creative flux, which is officially called le.casablanca. His concept is to create an environment where art can flourish between tropical plants and mural masterpieces. The whole house has an incredible energy to it that we immediately fell in love with.
It wasn’t until about a year later that we got the opportunity to collaborate with Erick again on a Día de los Muertos shoot for AD México. He decided to gather some local artisans and we were lucky enough to have some of our ceramic home decor calaveras, or skulls, included in the finery.
Erick curated the table design, which featured Mexican ceramic home decor, marigold floral arrangements, and candles inspired by traditional Día de los Muertos themes. The shoot took place at twilight in Casablanca’s interior garden, a sail-sheltered patio with a huge wooden table, under twinkling lights.

Nothing is more classically Mexican than our gorgeous and colorful serape placemats. These hand-woven textiles have served an incredible amount of uses over the years, from wraps and ponchos to bedspreads, horse blankets, shades, or decorations. The use of colourful textiles like this dates all the way back to ancient Mexico around the 1500s, and the introduction of foot-pedal looms allowed for bigger pieces to be woven, like these Mexican placemats.
Whether you’re entertaining or having your regular weekday meal, our serape placemats will truly bring joy to your table setting. Fun fact: serape fabrics often include red, white and green together as a nod to the Mexican flag. Can you spot it in our serape placemats?
We offer three styles of Mexican placemats. The first is based on the colors of dark blue, light blue, red and lilac. The second is based on a stylish dove grey, and the rest of the mat is a mix of amazingly vibrant bright colours. And we also have a fuschia pink, turquoise blue, yellow and purple option.
All our Mexican placemats are premium quality and are made to order. We’ve been working with the same artisans for a long time, so quality is always 100%! Each serape placemat measure 55cm x 30cm (21" x 12”)

We offer two skull options for Mexican Christmas gifts. One in black and white with silver sparkles. The other offers a color variety with birds, tropical flowers, fruit or marigolds. When you order these, don’t forget to add your color of choice in the notes.

To assist in one of Patrón’s biggest initiatives yet, our client, immersive branding agency THREESIXTY COMMS, approached us about a massive custom order, which took our artisans 5 weeks to complete, and included:
💀3,000 branded enamel mugs
💀1,000 ceramic branded mugs
💀396 wholesale ceramic skulls, half in a large size, half in a medium size
💀2,500 metres of green papel picado with 3 custom flags just like their 2018 order
Our ceramic home decor virtually took over SoHo! 200 Mexican ceramic skulls went to the London event venue, 19 Greek Street, where they oversaw bespoke cocktail classes and artworks created by some of the most influential contemporary Mexican artists.
Another 100 wholesale ceramic skulls appeared at different London venues, including The Den, Chotto Matte, Soho Residence, and Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Amathus, who all sported custom window displays. Yet another 50 ceramic skulls went to an event at the Nakari event space in Madrid for an influencer-centred marketing activation.
The event kicked off with a Day of the Dead parade through SoHo. Many of the bars where ARTMEXICO’s wholesale ceramic skulls appeared offered exclusive cocktails and special events from the 1-3 of November in celebration.
Mexican Artist Lourdes Villagomez also handpainted a special-edition bottle design that was available for a limited time at Selfridges. Heavily featured in all locations were the iconic Day of the Dead themes, including La Calavera Catrina costumes, Monarch butterflies and sugar skulls.
What a fantastic job Patrón and THREESIXTY COMMS did in creating a mix of Mexican tradition with contemporary art and culture to bring new interest and meaning to this iconic celebration worldwide!
ANIMA resides on some acreage near San Isidro Mazatepec in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, where our ARTMEXICO headquarters are also based. They have vegetables, cows, goats, various chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, dogs and cats and the new addition of two Vietnamese pigs on the property.
For the second year in a row, Julian looked to organized a Day of the Dead event featuring Son Jarocho group La Marea Fandanguera, Aztec dancing by MEXIKA TIAWI TLALO KTEKUTLI, and art by Geovanni Ibarra, Xilotei Barra, and the Colectivo Mazatepec. Beers from local craft brewery Cuatro Plumas and locally made tamales, pozole and other delicious snacks were available.
Julian curated the event to include 8 of ARTMEXICO's Day of the Dead event bunting and 8 of our Halloween event bunting. The event decorations were strung up over two imaginations of the Day of the Dead shrines so popularly associated with the holiday.
The remainder adorned the vine-laced patio roof. The effect was a subtle nod to the roots of the holiday, but with the modern twist that ANIMA is quickly becoming known for.
The performances led to a hangout and songs provided by local youth around a huge bonfire. Many participants brought tents to sleep around the vast property that constitutes ANIMA. Awaken by various rooster species in the morning, the event concluded with a coffee and sweet tamale breakfast as guests began to trickle off down the winding road.
We always feel so rejuvenated when we stay at ANIMA. Thanks for including us n this year's addition of your wonderful event, Julian!

In fact, we don’t know about you, but all year long we’ve been waiting for this moment to come. And all year long we’ve been getting super inspired by some really creative uses of papel picado in costumes and dresses all over the world!
Here are some of our favourites. And don't forget, if you want to create your own fun costume design, we have some options here that are not to be missed.
@yayoibowery is a mind-blowing, craft queen from Mexico City. It looks like Yayoi took part in some World Pride 2019 fun in this incredible princess look featuring bright fabrics cut to mimic papel picado and a matching purple papel picado crown!
Mexico City's @arannv and her partner made this adorable papel picado matchng couples costume and we couldn't be more into it! When they link hands they form a chain and it looks like the papel picado is hanging. How cute! Extra points from us for matching.
These lovely dancers were captured by Carlos Tischler at the Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City. They combined fiber and plastic Dia de los Muertos themed papel picado with traditional masks to make these outfits that are just perfect for twirling in.
We've already shouted this designer out on our Instagram, but @marissamademe has been hard at work creating several amazing papel picado quinceñera-inspired looks this year. We're particularly big fans of how she uses delicate and traditional papel picado, too! Check out more of her work on her site.
This Disneyland aficionado creates many incredible and colorful outfits, but we're particularly fond of her gorgeous papel picado hoop skirt. She made sure to take a shot in front of the memorabilia from everyone's favourite Mexican animation, Coco.

That’s where ARTMEXICO came in. They contacted us about some custom bunting with branded imaging that really captured both their party-friendly vibe and their essential elements, quality food, and drink service. Their flag designs promoted all of those things in delightful images that our team translated into delicate custom papel picado flags.
As you can see in these images showing Sausalitos’ designs and the flags we made based on them, our artisans are able to copy even the finest of details. We have the ability to perfectly replicate any logo. Sausalitos made full use of this ability in their flag design, and we were even able to create their branded Instagram hashtag, #SAUSALOVE.
The flags are cut from quality tissue paper, and you can choose as many colours as you like from the colour selector when ordering. Match your company aesthetic or your seasonal event theme perfectly or create something dazzling to hang permanently in your restaurant or bar.
We’re always open to orders big or small, with any amount of customization you need. You choose the design or get inspired by our selection of traditional papel picado options.
And yes, we ship worldwide!

The Gipsy Shrine girls were there to help transform guests into the La Catrina of their dreams using brightly coloured face paint. Patrón Tequila put in an order for some custom corporate bunting with us to bring authentic Mexican vibes to pair with their original marketing activation. Included in their corporate event decor was an iconic piece by Jose Guadalupe Posada featuring La Calavera Catrina.
Posada’s illustrations were originally brought to life through lithography or engraving and were intended to have satirical motives. La Calavera Catrina and many of his other calaveras were actually commenting on the eagerness that Posada observed of Mexicans to adopt European ways.
This year, we are excited to pair with Patrón Tequila again for their 2019 Day of the Dead event. This year we have supplied 2,500 meters of corporate bunting including custom made flags with La Calavera Catrina, the Patrón Tequila bee logo and a flag with two dancing skeletons. Our artisans use stencils to precision cut each flag by hand.
We can’t wait for you all you Londoners to cheers under ArtMexico’s corporate event decor again this Dia De Los Muertos. There are also some other surprise items currently making their way around the world, so stay tuned!

Dior presented their 2019 Cruise Collection, a combination of flowing lace dresses with high necks, cinched bustier dresses and toile de jouy inspired prints, all tied together with a stern nod to British and Mexican equestrian couture.
Part of the night’s entertainment was a show of Mexican Escaramuza Charras, or riders who do choreographed moves on horseback in a traditional colonial style. The Dior models mingled among the crowd and mannequins, sporting leather riding hats or sombreros designed by Stephen Jones.
Above it all, soft desert breezes gently lifted our custom papel picado, a selection of custom flags chosen by the Dior team and brought to life by our ARTMEXICO artisans.
Dior requested their logo be recreated in a traditional Mexican-style floral flag, along with 6 additional designs that they handpicked to highlight their themed event. This is something we collaborate on a lot with brands and individual clients alike, as you can see here and here.
We also give you the freedom to choose between any of the traditional flag designs our artists hand-cut for you, to vibrant effect like the colourful event bunting which we created for the 2019 Annual Brooklyn Artists Ball.
We offer up to 4 customizable flags per order online, but that’s just a number. Our corporate event decor can really be customized to suit your event perfectly and leave your guests in awe.
So remember: if you'd like to discuss custom event decor, just ask!

To help properly guide Josefina in her personalised wedding bunting purchase, we requested some images of her venue and advised her on ways she could hang her personalised wedding decor to get the best effect.
We often say that papel picado looks absolutely at its best when hung in abundance, and as luck would have it, Josefina was on the same page as us, when decorating her approximately 1,000 metres squared venue.
We have a few decorating styles we recommend for weddings, including arching down in the middle, arching down on both sides, and straight across. Josefina chose the second option. It’s important to remember, when you’re looking for that gorgeous drooping effect with ARTMEXICO personalised wedding bunting, you need to calculate 10% more on your length to account for the arch. This brings the height of your wedding venue down and creates a serene and intimate effect.
In the end, Josefina ended up needing 510 meters of personalised wedding bunting to fill her space, and boy, did it ever transform this venue! The venue was just set aglow with romantic and soft papel picado garlands detailed with doves, hearts, flowers, and the names of the newlyweds. If you want this effect, we recommend hanging your personalised wedding bunting 1 metre apart across the entirety of your venue.
We were also very pleased to offer Josefina some wedding favors to match her personalised wedding decor. In fact, for all wedding orders, you will receive the same number of matching mini papel picado flags as the total quantity of metres of personalised wedding bunting that you order.
Usually, we recommend ordering 3 weeks in advance for our personalised wedding bunting, but if you need them last minute, we can work something out around your schedule, too! Just get in touch and ask our team.

Shane and Maria from Florida got in touch with us to ask for 12 forty foot long banners for their fiesta-style wedding the following fall. Our personalised wedding papel picado features a personalised flag with the names of the bride and groom, which is repeated after every three traditional Mexican wedding flags.
They couldn’t wait to see their names and the date handmarked into our multi colored tissue paper. For a more stand-out effect, they chose the colour 28-AZUL VICTORIA for their personalised flag, and decided to have the rest of the vibrant Mexican color mix on the rest of the flags.
We loved the flamboyant effect that ARTMEXICO’s personalised wedding bunting added to their event. And we especially loved the cute Mexican-themed table that included our personalized papel picado wedding favour flags for their guests to take home and cherish.
Of our papel picado, Shane & Maria said:
"The wedding was perfect - thanks for making our day special”
All the best to you, Shane and Maria!
For this special affair, our papel picado once again crossed countries and found itself at an American wedding. The couple, Melissa and Gabriel, had a fabulous reception that favoured a white wedding colour scheme, pairing wooden details with white decorations.
Melissa looked radiant in her flowing white wedding gown, and she and Gabriel are glowing with happiness, backed with the magnificent backdrop of the sparkling chandeliers, our personalised papel picado banners and the glittering white fairy lights.
Our personalised wedding papel picado bunting added a tissue paper delicacy to the theme without detracting from the minimalist beauty of their event space.
Melissa and Gabriel chose personalised papel picado banners that fit within their theme, which was wooden and white, something strong and natural with something delicate, very boho chic. They chose our personalised wedding papel picado with two flags repeated along the garlands; one with their names and the date of their wedding, and the other with their initials.
They also requested multi-colored personalized papel picado wedding favour flags for their guests to take home with them. They paired their bunting together with fairy lights on the ceiling and also strung some on the wall to really show off the delicate details of their names and initials flags.
One of our favorite touches was when they glued an ARTMEXICO flag to a poster board backing and had their guests sign it as keepsake.
Melissa & Gabriel are an adorable couple! It was a pleasure to work with them as throughout the order process they were so lovely and polite! They sent us a photo of themselves with their Personalized Papel Picado Wedding Favour Flags, which come with every order of our personalised wedding papel picado banners. How cute are they? Thanks guys!
The NY-based event decorator and production company was behind the selection of our event decor at this flamboyant Mexico-themed evening. The team carefully selected colour blocked garlands in hot pink, cobalt blue and bright orange to showcase the vibrant Mexican theme.
Also featured was food cooked by NYC’s best chefs in Mexican cuisine, a series of experiential activations featuring nods to Frida Kahlo, a crochet photo booth created by Olek, and a screen printing area. The guest of honour was colourful and performative artist, Nick Cave.
Kahlo was a big part of the night and influenced much of the art, decorations and even the outfit choices for many of the guests. We created custom-made event bunting with traditional Mexican designs that burst with colour above the fiesta. They blended perfectly with the mojigangas or giant puppets of Frida and Diego Rivera who roamed around the festivities with a live mariachi band in tow, while guests helped themselves to Jose Cuervo tequila, and bespoke paletas.
Downstairs, guests were welcome to browse the “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving” exhibit.
And how was it to have our papel picado event decor featured at a prestigious event such as this? Our founder, Aprylle shares her thoughts:
“We were totally thrilled when we found out our papel picado would be decorating the Brooklyn Artists Ball, such a famous and prestigious event! We were honoured that our papel picado was showcased with so many of the art world’s most flamboyant and fabulous artists. The ingenious way that David Stark Design hung the papel picado was absolutely dazzling. Sarose their Event Coordinator was a joy to work with and we look forward to hopefully working with them again on more of their splendid events.”
Our custom papel picado really helped bring a colourful but edgy vibe to the Brooklyn Museum. Our event decorations can include custom flags designs, and the colour palette to suit the occasion. We always say that papel picado banners look best in abundance, and this is evident in the photos of the whopping 7,000 ft that David Stark Design team ordered. It truly rocked the Brooklyn Artists Ball, and it can rock your corporate event too!
]]>We had the absolute privilege in to be contacted by Cornershop Productions to be part of a Mexican fiesta-inspired shoot for the March 2016 issue of Ireland’s best-read wedding source, Irish Brides Magazine! When they contacted us with their idea in mind, they described the shoot as ‘Mexican bridal themed’ with ‘lots of colour’. We knew just what would fulfil these requirements, so we pointed them towards our Mexican papel picado decorations.
After a quick browse through our ARTMEXICO collection, they chose to use our Coral Collection Papel Picado Bunting. Each of the flags of this bunting set come with a creative lacey design and they are extra unique because their edges are rounded off to create a semi-circular effect. This design delicacy is then contrasted with a range of coral-inspired colours, including bright red and yellow accents!
Normally, we say the more papel picado, the better. But for this shoot, the ladies at Cornershop Productions chose to pair a strand of our Coral Bunting with other awesome items from Mexican decor retailers, and the results came out as an eye-catching array of happiness-inducing fiesta decorations! It just goes to show that whether your goal is a white wedding, or something a little more colourful, papel picado can be a versatile and playful addition to your theme.
Though the years may change, papel picado remains timeless! A big thanks to Irish Brides for the feature, and to Cornershop Productions for coordinating things.
